“The Mask” project springs from the curiosity in examining the impact of costume in society as well as in theatre.
In the old days the mask was a ritualistic object which later on has been adopted in theatre and greatly enhanced with symbolism; not longer related to the old traditions has instead been part of gestures studies, as a result of a more conscious and complex communication.
With the discovery of the psychoanalysis in the 20th Century, the human being becomes the main subject of the analysis focusing on the difference between the condition of “being” and “appearing”. The new flourishing poetry is based on the individual whose real nature hid behind a character.
The main purpose of painting and the use of colours is to evoke emotions throughout images but also facial expressions, encouraging the viewer to use a more psychological approach and to discover the personality of the portrayed characters.
